Now that it's official, here are Kari's pros of a C-Section, if one must have one...
(Warning: Some bullets are not for the squeamish.)
Well - here they are:
1) You will know exactly what day and time you will be having your baby. You can plan for it and know it. Avoids the waking up every day wondering if today's the day' feeling or the contractions hitting you when you are not in an ideal place. Also -- you won't be miserably overdue (1 -2 weeks) because they do c-sections prior to your due date.
2) You will avoid hours and hours of painful labor or if you are having an epidural then hours and hours of exhausting labor. No going in one day and laboring through the night and into the next day. It would be hard to wait that long to finally see your baby. C-Section...you get to see your child within 3 hours of entering the hospital.
3) Your baby won't have any battle wounds. She will have a perfectly round head and no bruises or smushed parts from squeezing through the birth canal for hours.
4) No episiotomy or soreness 'down below' and you avoid the incontinence issues that occur from the trauma to your urethra after a vaginal birth.
5) You don't have to spread your legs and show your goods to a troop of strangers during the most difficult and painful time of your life and.....no pooping on the table.
6) After you go home, there is far less bleeding that occurs for the next few weeks. Those that have a vaginal birth have more bleeding and for a lot longer. So....less $ spent on those giant pads and less time wearing them!
7) Since you will have a catheter, you get to rest in bed for the next day or two and everyone will wait on you like you're a queen. Anything you want will be brought to you - just say the word. Also, once you go home, you will get more help with everything because you will need a little more recovery time.
8) Jeff will have the opportunity to have special father/daughter bonding during those first few hours and in the first couple days than he would have normally. Which is nice because the baby will be spending a lot more time with you than Jeff once you get home.
9) You get to stay in the hospital a couple days longer so you can use their lactation consultants and nurses to help you. You have more time to ask questions and stuff because you don't always know what questions you have until you're a couple days in.
10) The drugs aren't too bad. They don't render you completely out of it, just drowzy, so you and your baby will have a lot in common those first couples days - you'll both be very sleepy.
11) The scar is amazingly small. They do an incredible job of stitching it up. It is very low and literally just a thin line just above your pubic area. The puffiness around the incision will go down completely within a couple months. It's hardly visible after a few months. So, whatever happens, I wish you luck. Cesarean's are not the ideal, but they are very safe and get you the same result .... a beautiful baby!!
