I was warned that when Morgen started walking, my life would change. Luckily, it has and for the better! She's truly walking now (i.e., no crawling at all). So, from first steps to full on walking took us about three months.
Walking is so fun! Our yard and patios aren't great on her knees, so I'm thrilled that she can move around without tearing clothes or skin. Her walking also reduces the frequency with which I need to carry her, and that's helpful considering my decreased energy level as Baby grows. Yes, we're going to find out if Baby is a boy or girl – it'll be about 6 more weeks before we know.
Today's walking challenge was the Zilker playground (next to the train) where Morgen hiked through the pebbles to get from the swings to the slides and around again. She was ti-red. J
Morgen really seems to have started understanding signing, too. In the last week, she started using "more" consistently and regularly. And she points if she can see the item she wants. (She used "all done" months ago but stopped.) Today, she used "milk" and "eat," though I'm not sure that she fully understands "milk" yet. She's done it a lot in the last hour, but she does really like milk, so we'll see. She continues to wave at every chance. She also started blowing kisses, but I think it's her interpretation of my signing "thank you." I thought she was blowing kisses, so I reacted with great excitement blowing kisses in return. Heh.
Her spoken words include:
"mama" – Me
"dada" – Jeff
"ball" – ball
"bo" – either outside or boat – not sure yet
"nana" – as a request, this means banana when accompanied by pointing to the fruit tray (or as a default), but she also uses it to refer to grapes (favorite fruits, perhaps?)
"unh-unh" – usually a barking noise to indicate dog, but often used for any animal noise (tones differ slightly)
"baaa" – this has only happened once, so it might have been a coincidence, but we were looking at a sheep in a book…
Other items of interest…Morgen LOVES to be outside. If the door is open, and she isn't allowed to go outside, she will cry, fuss, and sometimes scream. If you go outside and come in before she's totally exhausted, same behavior will occur.
For awhile now, Morgen has played with these picture cards. She has three sets – one with photos of animals, one with various pictures of objects, and one with shapes and Dr. Seuss characters. The Seuss cards come in a box. Morgen plays with them at least once a day. She'll take all of the cards out, putting them in her hand one at a time (always in the same way – left hand, add to the back of the pile; right hand, add to the front of the pile). Today she altered the process by taking each card from the box, setting it down, grabbing it in a different place, and then adding it to the pile in her hand.
We're working on not throwing food from the high chair to the floor, and we're making progress, but today wasn't a great day – breakfast and snack ended with food on the floor. Ah, well. We'll keep working on it. Lately, she'd been convinced to put food that was undesirable into her bib trough or the cup space on her high chair tray. Or she'd hand it to Jeff or me. Definite progress if not complete success. J
What else? Even Jeff admitted that there are strawberry highlights to M's hair. Hee hee.
Sadly, M woke up from her nap with a fever, so I'm off to read up on that. Ta.
